What is Satay?

Satays are meat on a skewer, grilled over charcoal or gas grills and usually served with spicy peanut sauce. One of the common types of satays found in most Asian cuisines is chicken skewers that have been marinated in coconut milk before being barbecued. The dish originated from Indonesia and has become very popular amongst Canadians. The most popular meat for a satay dish is chicken because it has the perfect balance of tenderness and flavour while cooking. Most people will use only one skewer of meat on their sticks but some want to add extra ingredients such as pineapple or mushrooms.
They are healthy and filling enough to act as a main dish or give guests more than just meat options at a party. The possibilities for customization are endless, and you can serve them with traditional rice bowls or as a side dish. We recommend using chicken with this recipe, but beef, tofu or any of your favourite proteins work as well!
